A celebration of excellence at the 2008/9 fitter of the year. Randall Riddles of PG Glass N1 City scooped the Fitter of the Year 2008/9 title at the PG Glass Network Conference of 6 February 2009.02.17 Randall competed against the Top 6 finalists during a 7 hour competition.
The competition kicked off at 08h30 on Friday morning with the fitters drawing numbers to determine which vehicle they would be working on.
The competition officially began at 09h00. The first session saw 3 fitters fitting windscreens while the other 3 repaired chips and replaced sideglass. During the afternoon session, the roles were reversed thus allowing each fitter to replace a windscreen, repair a chip and replace a sideglass. The structure of the sessions allowed spectators to witness all three elements f the competition – regardless of the time they wandered through the marquee. The fitters also had to sit through a gruelling one hour exam.
The ARG Technical Trainers formed the judging panel.
This year saw the introduction of the white blazer which will become a symbol of excellence. A scroll with the winners name will be sewn onto the blazer. The blazer will be on display in the PG Group Showroom.
